Artes de Cuba: Havana Lyceum Orchestra
The Havana Lyceum Orchestra first made some beautiful noise in the U.S. with their rave-reviewed 2017 album Mozart in Havana, the result of their artistic partnership with New York classical pianist Simone Dinnerstein. Now after several successful concert appearances supporting that disc, music director José Antonio Méndez Padrón and his uber-talented ensemble are back as part of the Artes de Cuba celebration at DC's Kennedy Center. Composer-pianist Ulises Hernandez and guitarist Ali Arango (in his American debut) are the featured soloist for this concert featuring music by Cuban-born composers, including a couple of contemporary pieces by Leo Brouwer. Works by Gisela Hernandez, Carlos Farinas, Guido Lopez-Gavilan, Moises Simons and Jenny Pena round out this Terrace Theater performance.
