At first blush, it seemed an unlikely paring of Frank Wedekind's 19th century play with song and dance, but in fact, it is a near perfect conjunction! Adolescents giving voice to their sexual angst as they are dragged headlong into an "adult" world is pretty universal but rarely confronted with such direct honesty and sensitivity outside of rather arcane rock lyrics. The production at the lovely Church Street Theater was superb. What was amazing to me is that my teenager, who enjoyed it very much, was the only one in the audience! What's up, one may well ask parents, with that? Is there a more appropriate audience?
