Folger Consort's Robert Eisenstein and Christopher Kendall and joined by soprano Michele Kennedy, harpsichordist Joseph Gascho, and violinist Risa Browder on a program exploring the work of Baroque-era composer Francesca Caccini. Also a virtuoso singer, Caccini was known as La Checcina ("The Songbird"), and is credited as the first woman to write an opera with her milestone La Liberazione di Ruggiero
(1625). This program will feature Caccini's powerfully dramatic songs and the dazzling string and keyboard music of the early Baroque. For her part, Kennedy is a versatile specialist in early classical and contemporary repertoire who has performed at such venerable venues as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and Washington National Cathedral.
