Pygmalion: Bernard Shaw's Witty Class Satire
COMP - $10*
Perhaps most popularly known as the inspiration for the musical My Fair Lady, George Bernard Shaw's classic satire Pygmalion is a brilliant attack on inequality amongst the classes and the sexes. On a bet, phoneticist Henry Higgins sets out to transform Eliza Doolittle, a cockney flower girl, into a society lady, but doesn't count on his "creation" having a mind of her own. This witty tale from the master playwright delighted and scandalized its first audience in 1912 and remains as relevant as ever today.
