About My Mother Had Two Faces: Reflections on Beauty, Aging and Acceptance
"My Mother Had Two Faces" unfolds like a Grimms’ fairy tale. Employing multimedia, mask, and a dose of Buddhist wisdom, this one woman show takes you on a humorous and poignant journey of self-reflection, self-discovery and acceptance. Growing up with a Swiss Mother, Karin straddled two worlds; the gritty streets of New York and the manicured orderliness of one of the world’s cleanest countries. Stumbling upon her mother’s personal diaries, she begins to see their relationship in a different light, one that leads her on a process of inner transformation. This story follows her mother’s exodus from her homeland to pursue dreams of stardom and the festering influence that a Mother’s perfectionism had on Karin as a daughter, a woman and a mother herself. Through conversations with her mirrored image, Karin explores her own vulnerabilities, strengths, and imperfections and asks the question “Can I learn to love the woman in the mirror?”
