About Here Lies Love on Broadway
She had thousands of pairs of shoes, loved amazingly lavish spending sprees, and had an astonishing rise to power. Filipina First Lady Imelda Marcos is the centerpiece of the new Broadway musical Here Lies Love, created by music icons David Byrne and Fatboy Slim.
But it's not just any Broadway musical. Here Lies Love reinvents its home, the Broadway Theatre: the glittery show is a “disco-infused extravaganza that turns the theatre into a dance floor with thrilling results,” The Guardian writes.
Tony Award winner Alex Timbers developed and directs this revolutionary show about former Marcos's meteoric rise to fame — and eventual fall from grace at the hands of the Philippine People Power Revolution after she and her husband, Ferdinand Marcos, imposed martial law. This unmissable production is a dance-heavy, eye-popping, and roof-raising musical unlike any other. Like Marcos herself, the show is so larger-than-life you have to see it to believe it.
Here Lies Love highlights
Save on Here Lies Love with Goldstar — this one-of-a-kind show literally transforms what a Broadway musical can look like. Immersive theatre, in which the audience actively participates in the action, is rare on Broadway. But this format befits the story of Here Lies Love: While we have fun, we're also made to think about how easy it is to get swept up by charismatic yet dangerous power figures.
- Are you ready to dance all night? Critics celebrated this singular sensation — Ben Brantley said the show is a “political chiller that’s also a red-hot adrenaline rush,” and New York Theatre Guide hailed it as a "rollicking, form-breaking musical party."
- Before coming to Broadway, the show had three sold-out runs. Here Lies Love blazed a trail all over the world. The pull-no-stops show is now on Broadway following three fiery productions at The Public Theater, Seattle Rep, and London’s National Theatre.
- Close the textbooks and get ready to groove. Here Lies Love follows a specific period of Filipino history, but no prior context is needed to get into this immersive show. Bring nothing more than a willingness to dance and learn with Broadway stars.
