About Secret Places of Central Park Walking Tour
Discover the secret places of Central Park that most never see . . . and only a true New York City historian can help you find. Visit some of Central Park's least-trafficked, historic, and scenic locations above 100th Street. Learn the history of the park and its creators, "hike" through Central Park's Adirondack Mountains, visit fort areas from the Revolutionary War and War of 1812, see the stunning formal gardens, find out who and what was on the landscape before the park . . . and so much more. This fascinating educational and entertaining tour is conducted by a licensed New York City tour guide and historian with over 20 years of experience.
You must be age 10 or older to attend.
The tour is conducted in the rain, snow, or shine.
The tour is approximately 3.25 miles and takes about 2.5 hours. You should be in good physical shape; there is uneven terrain, unpaved trails, rocks, some steep (but short) hills on dirt and mulch, uneven stairs, and potentially muddy/slippery areas. It is essential that you dress appropriately and wear suitable shoes.
The tour meets around 100th Street & Central Park West. Please arrive 15 minutes early. The guide will only wait for five minutes at the meeting location. Once the tour leaves, it is nearly impossible to find the group in the secret places and you will miss half of the tour and meet on the other side of the park.
With delays and closures in the subway system and heavy traffic on the streets, please give yourself more time than you think you need.
The tour is outdoors. Please wear comfortable and weather-appropriate clothes and shoes.
There are NO bathrooms at the meeting location. There is a bathroom stop approximately 1.75 hours into the tour.
Some locations may not be open or accessible depending on weather conditions and/or park closings.
Tours require a minimum of 5 people in total. You will be contacted if the tour is canceled.
