About Uncle Vanya on Broadway

Take a trip to the 19th-century Russian countryside in Uncle Vanya at the Vivian Beaumont Theater on Broadway. Almost 125 years since its premiere, Anton Chekhov's masterpiece still moves audiences with its enduring themes of unfulfilled potential and unrequited love.

This is the 11th time this Tony-nominated show has been on Broadway, now in a new translation by Pulitzer- and Tony-nominated playwright Heidi Schreck (What the Constitution Means to Me). Uncle Vanya's impressive creative team also includes director Lila Neugebauer, also represented on Broadway this season with Appropriate starring Sarah Paulson; Tony-winning set designer Mimi Lien, Tony-nominated lighting designer Lap Chi Chu, and Obie-winning costume designer Kaye Voyce.

This tragicomedy follows an uncle and niece living a life of solitude — until the niece's father and new wife arrive. Tensions run high as the dysfunctional family navigates feelings of dissatisfaction with their lives and loves, and grapple with the passage of time.
