About Pageant of the Masters

Join us in 2023 as the Pageant of the Masters celebrates the 90th anniversary of the first presentation of “living pictures” at the Festival of Arts. ART COLONY: IN THE COMPANY OF ARTISTS acknowledges the deep connections of the Festival and Pageant to the early artists who settled in Laguna Beach. It will also feature other memorable stories of artists assisting one another through cooperation and fellowship in vastly different eras and circumstances around the world. Each night under the stars in the Pageant of the Masters’ outdoor amphitheater, famous works of art are recreated with real people posing in elaborate sets. Be amazed by the Pageant’s intoxicating blend of original music, storytelling and stage illusions. Don’t miss this one-of-a-kind, must-see summer tradition! Don’t forget your Pageant ticket gives you unlimited access to the Festival of Arts Fine Art Show all summer long. Come early and listen to some great music, get a glass of wine, see and purchase some fabulous art.

“There is nothing else in the world like it.” —The New York Times

“In the 1890s, [Nellie Bly] attempted to travel 'round the world in fewer than 80 days, the challenge imagined in Jules Verne’s fictional classic Around the World in 80 Days. We’re researching her travel logs, diaries and ephemera related to her ambitious solo journey. Did she accomplish her mission? You’ll have to see the show!” —Director Diane Challis Davy

“I also especially like our selections of African art, and our recreations of works by Swedish painter Carl Larsson. There is a beautiful painting of a Venice canal with carnival revelers by Tiepolo. And we’ll end the first act with a fantastic world dance party!” —Director Diane Challis Davy

“...We’ll have a diverse array of artworks. We’ll visit 17 countries in 90 minutes. That’s what I call a ‘Bon Voyage!’” —Director Diane Challis Davy
