Sunday February 22, 2009 / 2:00pmOrfeo ed Euridice
How was your experience?
Acts I-II was excruciating slow. I can't stand female singing male role. It may be the same range-soprano, but it is different sounding. At times the Orfeo character seemed to try too hard to sound manly, thus taking away from the naturalness and beauty of the singer's own voice. Act III duets between Orfeo and Euridice was amazing because both finally conveyed passionate grief in their voice. The fairy popping in and out was silly and distracting. I was expecting a greek tragedy and because of the modern dancing and custome incorporated into the performance, I just was not convinced by the story. The theater is small enough that any seats would provide great views and sound.
