How was your experience?
If you are expecting to see the Mary Poppins we have come to love and adore, you will NOT find it in this musical adaptation. The new material is weak and out of place. The set is at odds with itself. Sometimes real and then abstract while in a real context, such as the bank. Feed The Birds number received chuckles from the audience for it appeared as if the Hag from Snow White had come to life. The choreography is lame. The use of puppets for animals does not work and seems childish. Semi naked statues and toys coming to life have little appeal even to the kids in the audience. Mary Poppins comes off far too stern and unlikeable and Bert just tries too hard. The childres are wonderful as is Mr. Banks. Ms. Banks is reduced to a depressed and confused wife. The Fly a Kite number is missed as a final. There just is NO magic and this Poppins is simply a Disney marketing tool. You leave the theatre wondering why???
