How was your experience?
This was the first time I'd seen anything by the Anaheim Ballet and, to be honest, I wasn't expecting much (just wanted to get in the Christmas spirit and see 'The Nutcracker' somewhere, and tickets were cheap, after all). While the Tier 1 seats we received were indeed on a flat floor that created a sea of heads between us and the stage, we were on the aisle and so could shift around to get a better view--it wasn't ideal, but not bad. The dancers were quite good, and a few of them were VERY good--especially the young ballerina who played Clara and the soloist who danced the Dewdrop in the Waltz of the Flowers segment. There was an insanely handsome male dancer with really impressive poise in the company who was, sadly, only featured in smaller roles (Snow King, Spanish Ambassador) despite being one of the principle male dancers listed in the program, but he and the other two impressed me enough that I would want to see another production by the Anaheim Ballet (if Goldstar has another great deal on like they did this time). The promise I saw in a many of the younger dancers, and the ensemble of various skill quality giving it their all to a pretty low-energy audience made the performance an enjoyable one to me. The backgrounds were extremely sparse, as other reviewers mentioned, but if they were on a limited budget, I'm glad they opted to put their money into the many beautiful, colorful costumes that really brought the various scenes to life. For what it was, the Anaheim Ballet's "The Nutcracker" presentation was fantastic.
