Friday September 9, 2011 / 7:30pmClassical Guitarist Santiago Diaz
How was your experience?
This was a classical guitar recital featuring pieces ranging from Bach to Pujol, with mainly an emphasis on Spanish/Latin American music. Having studied classical guitar for years and attended many concerts, I was surprised that Mr. Diaz launched into the Bach Second Lute Suite without playing any simpler pieces of earlier guitar music to warm-up both himself and the audience. I had serious problems with the Bach. There were memory lapses and irregular and strange tempi. The performer's exaggerated facial expressions were also a distracton. Mr. Diaz seemed more comfortable with Latin-American and Spanish music, but the program did not include any Albaniz or Villa Lobos, two composers which all guitar afficionados enjoy hearing.
