How was your experience?
This was pretty good for a community production, but there were missteps, even if you don't compare it to the movie, which would be natural considering some elements were essentially copied from the film. I was a bit disappointed that there wasn't a live orchestra or band, but you can't have everything. Costumes and sets were all great. The woman playing Eliza was terrific, while other players were just ok. I felt that the man playing Prof Higgins was a caricature of Rex Harrison. While the imitation might have been great at a cocktail party, it fell a bit flat in the show. The growling speak-singing, which in the movie was an accomodation for Harrison, was nearly impossible to understand in the theater. The fellow playing Pickering was quite good, and the ensemble did a good job rounding out the cast. The theater was small and cozy, but comfortable.
