How was your experience?
What a wonderful morning we two adults and three boys (ages 7, 11, and 12) spent on Davey's Locker whale-watching boat, the Ocean Explorer! Over the course of 2 1/2 hours in beautiful weather, we saw several blue whales, a minke whale, and quite a few dolphins and sea lions. (I took the accompanying photo of a spouting blue, with the Orange County coastline in the background.) The captain and co-captain, Larry and Kyle, and crewman Kane were very knowledgeable and provided an excellent and informative narrative. Capt. Larry was enthusiastic, and every bit as delighted by the animals we saw as we passengers were. The boys loved the excursion and were never bored. There was a well-stocked snack bar (with soft drinks and adult beverages, as well), and the boys liked being able to purchase reasonably-priced snacks there themselves. The boat has both inside and on-deck seating. The back deck has a shade cover, most welcome in the hot Southern California sun. There are restrooms on board. Whale sightings are a matter of both luck and knowing where to look. The crew's years of experience give passengers an excellent chance of spotting the amazing animals. I highly recommend Davey's Locker Whale-Watching cruises.
