Sunday September 16, 2012 / 2:00pmA Midsummer Night's Dream -- The Musical
How was your experience?
This show was great-- really creative and funny, with well-selected music that highlighted what was happening in the story line (usually in a very amusing way). The cast was pretty wonderful, except that the young woman who played Hermia-- although she was a wonderful actress-- could not sing, especially when juxtaposed by her on-stage beau, the man playing Lysander who was heads above anyone else in the cast in terms of talent. Also, the woman playing Helena over-acted and tried way too hard in her singing, but she was funny nonetheless. The men playing Lysander and Puck were phenomenal, though, in everything from singing to comedic timing. Otherwise, the timing of the physical & verbal comedy was spot-on, the musical numbers were engaging and fun (the male actors being stronger than the female actresses, particularly in singing), and the whole production was really refreshing and enjoyable. I had a great time at this show, and the whole audience was laughing throughout. I would recommend catching this show next weekend before it closes!
