Friday November 30, 2012 / 7:00pmThe Washington Ballet: The Nutcracker
How was your experience?
Wonderful sets, lush costumes, and inspired lighting. The George Washington nutcracker, colonial soldiers, native americans, and cherry blossoms were fabulous twists on a classic. Warning: no live music, and the recording they use is wooden and passionless. Additional warning, apart from the Pocahontas pas de deux and Davy Crocket, the dancing is mediocre. Clara was stiff and self-conscious, and the other soloists were all over the place. Granted, it was opening night, but the dancing itself was a disappointment. Overall, an innovative novelty and a fun family outing, but not the best dance company.
