How was your experience?
I was a little nervous after reading some mixed reviews but we thoroughly enjoyed this show. For those who are not familiar with the play, this is darker material than Broadway often features and certainly does not have a happy ending but for those familiar with the musical, this production is a fine rendition. The cast was first rate, turning in both fine singing and acting performances. I read some complaints that the actress playing norma was too young, but she played Norma's age brilliantly and we had no complaints. The most pleasant surprise to me was how much we did NOT miss the "floating mansion" spectacle of the original Broadway staging. This is a smaller story with more complex characters than your typical Andrew Lloyd Weber work, and we felt like it really found its soul on a smaller, simpler stage. In summary, we enjoyed this production far more than the original big budget version that rolled through Chicago back in the day and, if you are a fan of this musical, you would love this production at full price. With discounted GoldStar tickets, it felt like outright robbery! Enjoy.
