How was your experience?
My rating isn't really for the quality of performance or production. Theatreworks reliably puts on professional shows of high quality, and the MVCPA is an excellent venue - great sight lines, easy to get to, plenty of dining opportunities nearby. I'm downgrading two stars from a possible five because (a) the songs, while listenable, are fairly forgettable despite entertaining riffs on familar '60s tunes and (b) I thought the conception of Lady Bracknell's character as a Thatcheresque woman of power was a great mistake, and as a result I don't think her lines landed with anywhere near the impact they could have. (I think that's a failure of direction rather than of the actress playing the part.) Anyway, not as funny as a good production of the original play. Not a waste of time either, and I think the audience I was with enjoyed it - I was just keenly conscious of the missed opportunity.
