How was your experience?
Wow, in so many ways. With GoldStar, we paid less for four Blue Note brunches and a jazz show than we paid for one market-priced ticket to Blue Man Group -- so we were not necessarily expecting the world. But we really got it. First off, Joe Alterman, a young jazz pianist of whom I was unaware before this deal came along, was superb. He plays with energy, creativity and pizzazz, with a clear respect for traditional, accessible jazz. His trio also had a fourth that afternoon, in tenor saxophonist Houston Person, an older, established artist whose tone was full of feeling but whose fingers moved like he was still a teenager (I play tenor and I can appreciate both skills). Mr. Person also took the time to talk to me and my 7-year-old son after the show, and to sign the CD we bought. All four of us -- two adults and a 16-year-old guest from France and my young son -- enjoyed the music immensely. And to top it all off, the included brunch food, and even the wine, were just fine! I will do this again, and by the way, I'd do it for full price, too, and it would still be a bargain. So, yeah, wow.
