How was your experience?
This was an outstanding show, with the orchestra playing at its absolute best for Maestro St. Clair. The first half featured favorite pre-1900 Russian ballet music from Tchaikovsky. Each segment was accompanied by dancers on stage, who added a great visual element to the show. Next came two lullabies - one by soprano and piano, from Tchaikovsky again, and one by Stravinsky himself, instrumental with the orchestra. After intermission, a full-bore, big orchestra version of the Rite of Spring score left no doubt aobut why this has stirred so much passion - good and bad - in audiences. If you like the gentle dance music of Tchaikovsky and want a great idea of the power of Le Sacre du Printemps, this is your show.
