How was your experience?
I love the Odyssey Theatre, but this review is about what is possibly the worst play I've ever seen. Sexy and wild is just not enough, unless you're in middle school, which is about the level of this play. It's incoherent, strident, overbroad and irritating. Jokes don't click. Characters don't develop and loudly yell their lines. Foul language is not a problem in context, but when it's used for effect and not much else, it's grating. The "play within a play" concept as used here is sprung on the audience who have had no real preparation or been given any reason for it. Same with the random shots in the dark and corpses wheeled across the stage. Bewildering an audience and providing reasons after the fact doesn't work well. The actors try valiantly to carry on, but the material is what it is. It is the second play in my life I've walked out on. It really was torture.
