How was your experience?
I was surprised that Synetic used so much spoken text. I thought it actually dragged the performance into the realm of mediocre. What I love is the challenge an all-movement performance gives to an audience, especially for well-known texts. The novel isn't terribly profound--and probably doesn't deserve a 2.5 hour performance. Casting choices also seemed a bit off. The actor playing Dorian didn't really fit the image I had in my mind of him, and the wig on the Portrait was silly--though I thought the actor playing the Portrait was stunning, in looks and in movement. There were some wonderful scenes--mainly those with the actors moving. The music often felt more 1990s techno and therefore seemed out of place for a Victorian story.
