How was your experience?

Clear I hated it I didn't like it It was OK I liked it I loved it!
As usual, picking up tickets @ Will Call was a breeze. We had very good seats in the balcony section. Pantages staff was, as always, very friendly. Now, for the the show itself. Hmmm... I'll give Patricia Kaas points for not trying to be Piaf. I'll give her points for trying something different. But overall, it didn't work for me. Some of the choices she made when it came to musical arrangements, choice of tempo, orchestration were... odd. The dancer was a distraction more than an enhancement. Miss Kaas trying to match the dancer's performance was a tad painful to watch as her abilities seemed limited. The video w/ Alain Delon on "Milord" was head-scratching strange (as was the horse imagery on "Je Ne Regrette Rien"). The "theatrical" bit was unnecessary. Miss Kass was very good during transitions between songs. Speaking (mostly in English) to the audience, leading them in a sing-along a couple of times. All in all, I was disappointed because, this being a Tribute to the greatest French singer of all times (yeah, I'll argue that point with anyone), I was expecting renditions closer to the originals (with the understanding that Kaas' voice being so different from Piaf's it wouldn't be an impersonation). The "re-imaginations" of the songs were too far from the originals for me to really enjoy the show. But again, Kudos to Patricia Kaas for trying something original (and when she sang Lili Marlene, one of her own songs, she was great.)
