How was your experience?
Meh... So we paid for the premium orchestra seats, and though they were pretty close, at the Lyric the closest seats are actually "underneath" the stage, instead of eye level, so we missed out on whatever action happened down low (specifically the "elves" just looked silly because we couldn't see their elf shoes on the stage). As for the show itself ... man, it just goes to show you how weak the story is without Will Ferrell. The lead guy we'd seen before in the traveling broadway production of Beauty and the Beast, and his portrayal of Buddy was just ... wrong. Super perky and enthusiastic, but not in the right way, more in a "I'm bad at acting like anything except a giddy moron" instead of Will Ferrell's tongue-in-cheek, sarcastic naivete . The musical numbers were also not very good, like someone wasn't really into the story and just kinda wrote some lame songs out of obligation. The acting was ok in general, but the humour was dated (who makes Charlie Sheen jokes anymore? No one.) and forced and awkward in most scenes. In addition, in some scenes the rest of the cast just stood around and watched the action unfold on-stage while one or two main characters traded dialog - which reminded me a lot of theatre productions back in high school. I will say that the Emily the mom and Michael the kid had voices that sounded great together, they were definitely a highlight. Overall though, not worth the money - save it or go see a different holiday show
