How was your experience?
This was a great show and the somewhat academic synopsis about a psychosexual play within a play does not do it justice. Although it could have been 15 minutes shorter, that's true of many plays. Here, the trashy, no frills Vanda arrives late and talks a very disillusioned director into an audition when he is closing up at the end of a long unsuccessful day. So, we see both the audition which runs the length of the play, as well as the play that she is auditioning for. In the play, the nobleman, Thomas, meets high bred Vanda (coincidently same namd) tries to persuade her to dominate him. Especially considering this is a 2 person show with one fairly stark set and no intermissions, the play moves along at a very fast pace with Vanda easily slipping back and forth between present day trashy Vanda and 19th century sophisticated, composed but somewhat ahead-of- her- time Vanda. The play is funny and clever, good use of props and movement around the stage, and excellent acting by both male and female actors.
