Marcia Posner’s review

This concert was remarkable. I bought the ticket mainly to hear Felix Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in E Minor, opus 64, although I also love Dvorak's New World Symphony. I had not been familiar with Samuel Barber's Overture to The School for Scandel, but am glad to add to pieces I already enjoy--and I was not disappointed. What I did not know was that I would be mesmerized by the outstanding violinist, Ariel Horowitz. I could not believe what I was hearing and seeing: a young woman playing this beautiful piece as though she had been playing for 30 years or more. She was received by loud applause and cheers, forcing her into, I believe, at least five curtain calls. If only there had been time for her to play another piece! I will watch for her in the future. Of course, the members of the Symphony were outstanding, as usual. I also enjoyed watching the guest conductor Tito Munoz.
