Be prepared for the arrival of The Lion King to the Orpheum Theatre in San Francisco. The multi-award-winning hit Disney musical welcomes West Coast audiences into the circle of life with mesmerizing staging, iconic music, and a soaring story for people of all ages.
Three years after Disney released the classic Lion King film in 1994, the musical adaptation debuted on the New York stage and has ruled everything the light touches ever since. The story of Simba, a young lion cub who must learn how to become the rightful and honorable ruler of the African Pridelands, proves timeless, touching generation after generation.
That's due in large part to the stirring songs by Elton John and Tim Rice, which roar to life on stage more spectacularly than ever. Hear all the classics from the movie, like "Can You Feel the Love Tonight," "Be Prepared," and "Circle of Life," alongside equally touching tunes unique to the stage show.
The Lion King, directed by Julie Taymor, won six Tony Awards upon its 1997 Broadway premiere, including Best Musical. That same production is the one at the Orpheum, now featuring a fresh cast, but still with the music, story, and stagecraft that continue to win over generation after generation of audiences.
