When approaching the Arboretum get in the LEFT lane and go straight to the overflow parking where the shuttle is. If you go after 6:30pm don’t even think you’ll get in the main parking lot. You’ll have to pass the Arboretum and make a u-turn in traffic to park otherwise.
Wear comfortable shoes and dress in layers, gets little chilly. There are good choices in Food Court, but plenty of other affordable places to eat in area. We chose Yang Chow in Pasadena, but there is mall with food court very nearby with more choices.

The Arboretum parking lots fill early and traffic gets congested on the street. Save stress and park in the northwest corner of the mall, then walk half a mile or more or take a free shuttle to the main entrance. We only discovered much later that there seems to be an auxiliary entrance at the south end of the Arboretum, just across from the northwest corner of the mall.

Parking spaces in the lot are very limited but plenty of room in The overflow parking area by the race tracks (free shuttle service). You can park across the street at the mall but park at your own risk

Parking lots at the arboretum filled quickly. Park at the Santa Anita Mall instead. Plenty of spots and free, and just a short walk to the arboretum.
