As the Polo Lounge was fully committed, we decided to get to the venue early and grab a quick pre-performance bite at one of the eateries on Canon. We chose Porta Via, as it looked crowded and the food looked decent. We were seated within 8 minutes, and were surrounded by people with their little dogs. The Beverly Hills Health Department must turn a blind eye. Oh well, when in Rome... Items were 2/3 Breakfast, served till 2pm! The service was slow, food took over 1/2 hour to arrive. At least it was hot. $14.95 for eggs benedict, decently priced, arrived hot with a handful of mixed greens salad with the ubiquitous balsamic oil and vinegar dressing, that migrated on the plate and flavored the main dish. This isn't my idea of a complementing side dish for breakfast. Weird! Lunch items were pricey with lamb chops at $35.00. My daughter ordered a salmon dish that was $24.00. The busboy was efficient and kept my water glass filled, but was noisy to the point of distraction, busing tables, as he slammed the glasses on the table, and tossed the dishes like he was dealing cards. All this splendor for $86.00. So, for a $100.00 with tip for a party of four, you get a taste to feel what it's like to be with the crowd that has breakfast in the afternoon, in the environs of the streets where $800 blouses abound, and down the street from a great theatrical venue. Be forewarned!
