We took the red line from Hollywood, got off a couple blocks away at Pershing Square and had dinner at Grand Central Market. On the way back home we got on at the civic center station and the walk down through grand park is beautiful with the fountain and spectacular view of city hall in downtown la.
Go early to avoid parking delay and to eat variety foods; and stay after to dance around the fountain with live bands!!

Give yourself ample time to park in the theater's expansive lot, especially because there may be several shows starting at the same time in the complex.
Take the Red Line to the Civic Center Station & walk one block to the theater
We enjoyed a good and reasonably priced cocktail at the music center venue.
The weather was great sunny, but not too hot.. I wore I wore jeans with a shirt. dont forget to take a little sweater. It got cold inside the theater. .
If you get hungry after the show there is a restraunt under the theater.
As with any theatre, the food is pricy, and it's the only option in that vicinity. Make sure to eat before you go if you don't want to spend too much
Eating at the Border Grill before the show meant we had a delicious dinner and only paid $5 for parking for the whole night -- shuttle picks you up and takes you back from the restaurant.
Go really early and you might catch a spot on the street - be prepared to walk.

The weather was cool on the Plaza, in the 60's.. I wore clothes. No need to dress up..
Performance starts promptly, and latecomers are seated about 15 minutes in. There are monitors in the lobby where you can watch the action on stage if you arrive late.
