About St. Paul Roman Catholic Church
Even in a place littered with imposing buildings by Frank Gehry, Michael Graves, Robert Venturi, and I.M. Pei — plus Gothic architecture galore — St. Paul’s Catholic Church of Princeton is a uniquely powerful edifice. Built of chiseled granite with limestone trim, St. Paul’s is only a short walk up Nassau Street from the ivied towers of the town’s famed university, but it casts a spell all its own. Entering the large church, you are swept up in the confident, even triumphant, space as the light pours in through the giant rose window, glazing the stone walls, terrazzo floors and marble altars. Empty or wall-to-wall full, this church is a dramatic event unto itself.
