Left car in San Bruno - took Bart. fast and easy & no parking hassle/expense.
The Ellis-OFarrell garage is close (walk through Macy's then down a block and a half to the theatre) and CHEAP ( only $1/hour after 6pm)
Full bar with snacks downstairs at the Curran. I got a quick and delicious bowl of pumpkin soup at Cafe Mason with only 30 minutes to curtain... Very satisfying and yummy. Menus was extensive and moderately priced and if the soup ( their "everyday" soup) was any indication, very good. I will go again!
The tubular parking garage on Mason, the one nearest the theater, is VERY $$$$. We paid $22 for about 3 hours at night.
Park at the Ellis garage across from the back entrance to Macy's for a good price and close walk.
Approx 90 minutes with no intermission (hurray!)
Our Red Velvet tickets were upgraded to Premium Orchestra (due, I think, to a very small house for this preview), but being in the second row from the stage is a mixed blessing...
Allow time to read the program notes before hand for a richer experience and more to talk about afterwards!
Had trouble booking Goldstar though Facebook. QUEL SUPRISE ? Skip FB, join Goldstar.
Had a delicious pre theatre dinner with seamless service at Puccini & Panetti around the corner from ACT.
or, add your own...Union Square Garage is a block and a half away. I also enjoy Lefty O'Doul's but many may not like the piano bar, baseball nut, steam table atmosphere. I love it.
You're wasting your money to sit in the balcony at this theater. The rack of lights attached to the front of the balcony blocks the view of those in the front row, so they lean forward at the edge of their seats to see action at the front of the stage. The balcony is VERY steeply raked, so when they lean forward, a ripple effect occurs where the people in the second row also lean forward to try to see around the heads of the people in the front row who are now blocking their view, and so on and so on. If those in the front row are inconsiderate jerks, they stay leaned forward through the entire show, and no one behind them can see. Absolute sightline FAIL. The lighting rig needs to be redesigned!!! The owners of this theater don't give a crap about screwing over balcony patrons. I politely asked the usher to ask the people in the front row to sit back, and he point-blank refused to do so.
Starting time was 8 on the Goldstar confirmation, but "Old Hat" started at 7. I suggest you double check times, we missed half the show. Goldstar contacted me to alert me of the time error by leaving a voice mail and by email, neither of which I received in time.
anything BUT orcheatra seating is very uncomfortable with no leg room.
Saturday Matinee, lots of traffic; coming from los altos took me exactly 1 hour, but I drive like a demon. Was going to PARK @ hotel Donatello, read that fee was only $6 - but by 1:30 that lot was full, the one right next to it was $20 flat fee (!!) but I parked there because didn't want any hassle. Take bart if you can, easy walk to ACT theatre.
