Use public bus, BART, or street car. Market does not allow personal cars so getting around and parking could be difficult.

Montesacro Pinseria-Enotica 515 Stevenson St: Italian: We ate here! Food was excellent, good wine and great atmosphere. Staff was attentive. Also consider: The Hall, 1028 Market Street: A small upscale food court type setting.6 different food vendors, a large bar and open seating in the middle of it all. Nice atmosphere, funky, retro decor.
The bathroom situation is appalling in this venue. They should close this place down and rebuild one with decent facilities.
The theater was cold so I wish I had brought the extra scarf I had considered.
I used Parking Panda to find a good place to park. Got a spot on Turk which was as close to the Golden Gate Theater as you can get.
Sleezy walk to theater but not bad
Parked with Panda Parking at 265 Eddy..reserve and pay on Internet..so near and convenient.
Ate at Montesacro on Stevenson St; super Italian traditional Pinsa. Parking, restaurant, and venue all within 5 blocks. The best.
Theatre is in a kind of sketchy area. We live in the North Bay, so have to drive in. We generally park at the Mission Street Garage and have a bite at San Francisco Center before walking the block to the theatre.
We parked on Eddy Street between Jones and Taylor for $12 Wed. afternoon. Easy walk to the Golden Gate Theater, though be prepared to see the city's homeless on the street...
We took BART into San Francisco....and that worked well.
We ate at Nordstrom's which is right by the Powell Street BART station and then walked to the theater. Worked great.
Kuleto's on Powell..you can easily walk to the theater and the food is ALWAYS great!
Plenty of people walking from Bart to and from the theater--stay with the crowd.
Since I attended a matinee, I opted to walk towards City Center where I ate at the Sushi Club - 71 - 5th Street. Very nice. Look up restaurants close to the venue, there are many, all different prices.
Take BART, get off at Powell, walk two blocks west and you're there.
The weather was nice.. I wore a nice outfit. After all, out of respect for Ms. Lansbury, one should dress up a bit.
.
ShowDogs is directly across from the GGTheatre...it's all hot dogs...but amazing wonderful hotdogs and the onion rings are fantastic. Very light and golden with the perfect amount of salt....yummers!
