Don't drive. Take a cable car or cab.
You have a choice of a few spots to have a drink before or after a show. We like the Huntington Hotel bar and the Fairmont is right there also. Check out the Tonga Room for a tropical experience.
Don't expect to find street parking close to the venue. We got lucky. Best to allow enough time for either cruising the hood or better yet, take public transportation or a cab there. Walking around is more of a hike. They don't call it Nob Hill for nothing.
We decided to grab a meal after the show. There are more than a few late-night spots to choose from if you do a little detective work on the net.

Had a great meal at Nob Hill Cafe, moderatly priced and very tasty.
The weather was overcast, with a heavy drizzle when we left.. I wore dressy, casual clothes, but the crowd ran the gamut from hippie-dippy to formal wear (a few - must've been from out of town!).
Lots of places to eat - Pricey restaurants on California St., but moderate and cheaper restaurants a few blocks away on Geary, Sutter, Pine, Bush, and Powel Sts.
Street parking within a few blocks but READ THE SIGNS! We parked free on Bush St. at 7 pm with no problem.
Take a cab.

As this is NYE, most were dressed up.
The theater is old. The seats are painfully uncomfortable and the carpets are heavily stained.
Parking was $30.
No new year fun fare. Only Balloons
