Parking can be tricky, so arrive early. Valet is $30, but parking at Howard University's lot around the corner is only $2 an hour.
You need to arrive early!!!! We decided to go home after work - WRONG MOVE - go directly to the Howard to stake out a table. They have a menu that we couldn't try because we didn't have a table. I don't know if the food tastes great but it looked delicious! You can eat and drink while you wait for the show to begin.
The crab dip is great, but portion is small and really only big enough for one serving.
Valet parking is right in front of the venue and saves time. Recommend using them.
The Howard Theatre serves dinner. That's why your ticket says "doors open..." and gives a time that is about 2 hours before the show. Eating there will help to ensure better seating!
We went on a Sunday afternoon. I had not been in that part of DC on the weekend in a long time. There are a lot of places to eat on 14th and U Streets You can find 2 hour parking in the communities in the area. Lots of people were out that evening shopping and eating.
We went on a Sunday, so it turned out we could find free street parking. They had a very small self-park lot one block from the theater, and they were charging fifteen dollars for that.
food purchase required to sit down for this performance (although I found out later you can sit in a balcony seat without having to buy anything. The food prices are very expensive.
The weather was perfect!. I wore dressy skirt and top. It's fun to look nice!.
We ordered 3 appetizers and a bottle of wine to share. Everything was good but they screwed up our credit card charges. Hope they will be able to fix it!
There is on-street parking within 6 blocks. Any closer and the parking is restricted to residents or time limited to 2 hours. Closer meter parking is expensive and scarce.
This was at the Howard Theater. I'd been there once before and enjoyed the place, although the food and drinks are expensive (and $10 minimum). i had read many terrible reviews of the food and service (from valet to coat check to waitstaff), so was kind of girding my loins. We arrived 45 minutes early and got good seats at a table on the floor (you share tables for 6 with others). We only ordered drinks and had no problem whatsoever with the service. We had a $10 minimum as noted. Beers (including large drafts) are $8, but they add tax and tip, so one beer totals $10, so you don't HAVE to have two to meet your minimum(!) We came early and were able to find street parking. Metro is very close. I read bad news about the valet parking (understaffed) and coat check (understaffed). We kept our coats with us.
Spend anywhere from $50 (couple of drinks and appetizer)- $150 (full meal) for a table of 2. It can be quite expensive but the food is tasty.
