Intiman was founded in 1972 by Margaret Booker, who named her new company after a small theatre in Stockholm founded by Swedish playwright August Strindberg. Like its namesake, Seattle’s theatre emphasized a close relationship between artist and audience. The Intiman Theatre at Seattle Center holds a semi-thrust, proscenium stage with an intimate, highly-raked house holding 446 seats. The seats are numbered even on the right and odd on the left side of the house while the center section is numbered consecutively from house left to right. The last row is a mere 50 feet from the stage.
